WELCOME TO THE CAMP TARAWA COLLECTIONS

“People were so hospitable, that you can’t believe it…if you pulled into somebody’s house – you became friends.”

Major General Fred Haynes

The Honokaʻa Heritage Center houses an exclusive collection and exhibit on Camp Tarawa. In the mid-1990s, Alice Clark and the Pacific War Memorial Association began collecting records, artifacts and memorabilia that document this era in history. Over the years, Ms. Clark and later the Camp Tarawa Foundation compiled extensive collections of images, posters, maps, camp newspapers and artifacts. The collection includes over 100 interviews narrated by local North Hawaiʻi residents and World War II veterans.
